Our story

Built for locksmiths, by people who understand the craft.

We believe every locksmith shop deserves software that respects the trade — tools that speak your language, work in the field, and keep your records as precise as your key work.

Why LockBench exists

It started with a filing cabinet. For over twenty years, a family locksmith shop ran on paper job cards, handwritten bitting records, and a spreadsheet that crashed every time someone tried to sort by date. Master key charts lived in a binder that only one person knew how to read. Invoices were typed up at the end of the week — if they got typed up at all.

When we looked for software to fix it, everything we found was built for plumbers, HVAC techs, or general contractors. They could track time and materials, sure. But none of them understood bitting specifications, keyway databases, or master key hierarchies. None of them could generate a pinning chart. None of them had a key code lookup you could use standing at a car door. The locksmith trade was an afterthought — or not a thought at all.

So we built LockBench. Not another generic field service tool with a locksmith skin on top, but a platform designed from the ground up for the way locksmiths actually work — in the field, at the bench, and on the road. Every feature exists because a real locksmith needed it. Every record is structured the way the trade thinks about it. And every screen works on a phone, because that's where the work happens.

What we stand for

The principles that guide how we build — shaped by the trade we serve.

Precision

Key work demands exactness — a single pin off and the lock won’t turn. Our software holds itself to the same standard.

Reliability

Field service can’t afford downtime. When you’re at a call-out, your tools need to work. We build for uptime, every time.

Trust

You handle people’s security every day. We handle yours — with strict data isolation, encrypted records, and defensible audit trails.

Craft

There’s pride in skilled trade work. We believe the tools that support it should be built with the same care and attention to detail.

Field-First

Designed for the van, not the boardroom. Every feature works on mobile, in the field, with one hand free.

Simplicity

Locksmiths are tradespeople, not IT administrators. Every workflow is designed to be learned in minutes, completed in seconds, and understood at a glance.

The person behind LockBench

LockBench is built and maintained by a solo founder with a personal connection to the locksmith trade.

JH

James Hoffmann

Founder

Grew up around a family locksmith shop and spent years watching the business run on paper job cards, handwritten bitting records, and a spreadsheet that crashed every time someone tried to sort by date. When no software existed that actually understood the trade, he built LockBench — designed from the ground up for the way locksmiths work.
